by biker , Feb. 23, 2008
• Pros: Easy to set up and use. Great detail
• Cons: Maps not always up to date

I have found things in my own neighbor hood that I didn't know existed. Have lived here 30 years. Most of the negative comments I have viewed are apparently faulty units which should be referred to Garmin which I understands has a top rating for customer service. My unit finds satellites quickly, a little slower on stormy days ,but never has lost them.I'am hearing impaired but have no trouble with voice directions . I don't think you can go wrong with the Nuvi 350.

• Product Rating: 2.00 star(s) Battery Dead, Map Not Update, Returned after 23 Days
by peter , Feb. 11, 2008
• Pros: Clear Screen, User Friendly Features, Quick Calculation
• Cons: Map Not Up Today, Ridiculous Advice, Hardware Not Reliable
• Has Owned Product: 1 Month(s)
• Comments:
I bought Nuvi 350 with North America version at Costco.ca on 08/1/19 for $328 (tax included) but had to return it for a refund today after keeping it for 23 days.

The good things of the Nuvi are quick calculation of location and advice, clear screen, user friendly features. Additional maps of Europe etc are available at a cost but maps in Asia are very limited. The screen mount is well designed and tight. The car charger is securely connected to the mount.

The following were experienced through my 23 days of use:
(1) Did not recalculate once when driving away from the suggested route, had to reset;
(2) Gave wrong directions several times when driving out from a parking lot;
(3) Gave ridiculous instruction few times, e.g. turn right and then U turn when I was prepared to turn left.
(4) Map not up to date: Mine was equipped with the most updated 2008 version map but still did not show new roads which had been opened for almost a year, (to be specified, the new section of Rodick Rd in Markham, ON crossing over Hwy 407);
(5) Despite the user friendly features, switching between modes are not easy, always have to switch back to the front page. Had to input the destinaton again after viewing the other features/modes.
(6) Battery found dead on the 21st Day and couldn't be charged up using all the 3 supplied chargeable devices (charger, car charger & computer USB cable).

Having experienced the convenience of using a GPS device particularly during nighttime, I was originally prepared to keep the Nuvi 350 despites its drawbacks mentioned above. However, after experiencing (6), I have no alternative but to ask for a refund. Exchange is obviously not a good idea fearing that the battery would be dead again after the warranty period.

• Product Rating: 2.00 star(s) NOT worth the $$$$
by PartTimeGent , Jan. 26, 2008
• Pros: Size
• Cons: Constantly "aquiring satellites". $70 update
• Has Owned Product: 1 Year(s)
• Comments:
I purchased my Garmin Nuvi 350 in November '06. At the time is was $599. It has good, not great, directions. It has 2 settings to get you to your location. Quickest time and shortest distance. I have several trips that I am very familiar with that are quicker and safer than the route the 350 suggests.

Another downfall is that it is constantly "aquiring satellite". I don't know if this is normal, but it is annoying.

I understand that new streets are constantly being added, but to have to pay $70 for an update is ridiculous. I have several friends that also have Garmin units and they were fortunate enough to get FREE updates. I was not so lucky.

My suggestion, buy the least expensive unit. It will get you to your destination as well as the pricier models. I will also do the research for my next GPS to find the one with the least expensive update.

• Product Rating: 1.00 star(s) Don't Buy Garmin Product Due to Worst Tech Support
by John , Dec. 12, 2007
• Pros: average GPS, worst tech support
• Cons: Can't update 2008 Road Map
• Has Owned Product: 1 Year(s)
• Comments:
I bought Garmin 350 one year ago and can't update the road map using Garmin 2008 Road Map. I tried to get a help from Garmin by phone or email. No response at all. Besides worst customer service, Garmin 350 sometimes made me upset. Last week, when I tried to return rental car in Orlando Fl, Garmin 350 gave me a wrong direction even I knew I was in the right street. It directed me off the street and then let me make a U turn back to the original road. It made me very disappointed with this GPS.

• Product Rating: 5.00 star(s) Great Choice!
by JCAT , Nov. 26, 2007
• Pros: Great size and nothing else to purchase.
• Cons: Battery life approx. 3 hours. Maps don't have newer roads.
• Recommended: Yes

• Comments:
It is my first GPS and I couldn't be happier. It is small enough to slip into a coat pocket so I don't have to leave it in the car. It came with a home charger and a mobile charger. The mobile charger fits directly into the Nuvi 350 or into the suction-cup windshield mount that was also included. The screens are bright and easy to see and it automatically switches to a night screen at sundown. There is an array of languages and voices to choose from as well as the amount of detail you want in the screen image. An alternate screen keeps track of miles driven, miles yet to drive to your destination, time in motion, time stopped, etc. Many times I use it, not for directions, but to keep me on schedule as it tells me when I will arrive at my destination.

My only disappointments are that the battery seems to run down quickly (approximately 3 hours) but that is easily handled by the convenient mobile charger, and an occasional road that is missing which causes me to want to update the maps (but I can't figure out how). But those are very minor complaints and I am considering buying two more for my wife and daughter.
